Max King, Endurance Runner

Hometown: Bend, OR

Favorite Sports Team: Montrail Ultrarunning Team, USA Track and Field Team.

Other Sports or Activities: Whatever, as long as I’m doing it and not watching it, and especially if it involves endurance or bone crushing physical contact.

Real (Primary) Job: Chemical Engineer

Best Trail Running Memory of 2009: Probably have to be my circumnavigation of Mt. Hood on the Timberline Trail. What a spectacular trail.

Favorite Trail Ultra: Haven’t done too many to date but I think Transrockies would fall into this category. Very cool experience with great people, camping, and 6 races in 6 days.

Beer or wine: Definitely beer, a very rich, very thick, very dark stout. Meal in a can… or probably a bottle.

Trail Shoe of choice and why: A yet undisclosed Montrail trail racing shoe in the works. Can I say that?

Objective #1 for 2010: Western States. Gotta go big.

Best race in 2009: World XC Championships in Amman, Jordan. Toughest XC course I’ve ever run. Might as well have been the mountain champs.

Person Who has Influences You the Most: Lots of people but I’m assuming we’re talking running so would have to be my college coach, Jerry Smith, who taught me that if you’re stronger, tougher, and meaner than everyone else on the course, you’re chances are good. So he carried a big stick to beat us with and made us do 100 X 200m workouts.

When I’m Not Running I Prefer to... spend time at home or be out on my bike or help other runners get faster.

If A Genie Would Grant Me One Wish: Hmm, I don’t know, so many…so many.

When in Need of Rest and Relaxation I.. just go for a run, a long run, of course, I’m a runner. That’s the answer you’ll get anytime you ask a runner that question.
